For the extension of the architectural School in Venice we have brought in the public space of the surrounding context. We have differentiated the program into public including the reception, bookstore, exhibition and café and private programs like seminar rooms, auditorium and administration. The private programs are organized in the closed volumes of the 2nd and 4th level. The public programs are located on the open floors of the ground and the 3rd level. The public and private program create two zones which organize the building itself.

The two open levels are conceived as outdoor space with minimal glass enclosures. The fluid ceiling and floors provide extraordinary open landscape. Die various floor heights differentiate this landscape and create intimate and open zones. An escalator connect both floors and enhance the continuation of the public space into the building.

The private programs in the enclosed volumes are orthogonally organized and provide quiet and concentrated spaces. Large elliptical cut of this closed volumes provide daylight. The closed volumes and the cut-out are created in relation to the existing context and provide views and volumetric relations. The vertical circulation between this two building volumes are trough and on top of the auditorium.

Two elevators and three escape staircases provide the vertical connection of all levels. The cores of the escape staircases are part of the structural system, supporting the two closed volumes. This closed volumes are floor height Vierendeel-beams that leaf the open levels without any columns.
